Tulip, Bertoia And Ball Chairs

Bertoia chair

Bertoia chair

Eero Saarinen was the creator of the tulip chair.  He did it with the intention of “clearing up the slum of legs in U.S. homes.”  This model became instantly popular when introduced in 1956 as a classic example of modern furniture. Tulip chair replicas are inspired by this original creative and consist of plastic seats and a base made of cast aluminum that swivels.  For added comfort, an upholstered removable fabric seat can also be added.  These tulip chairs are an elegant addition to tulip marble dining tables or side tables made of marble.  They are also used in offices in meeting rooms and lunch rooms as a stylish as well as comfortable addition.

In 1952 Harry Bertoia experimented with metal rods bending them into practical and comfortable forms of seating.  Despite their fragile look, they are extremely strong and durable. Bertoia wire chairs owe their popularity not only for their looks but also because they are so comfortable.  This modern design is a favorite among most interior designers as it adds to the aesthetics of a room.

There have been modifications made to the original design with the addition of interesting features like the integration of the MP3 player.

Eames DSR And DAW Chairs

DSR Chair

DSR Chair

The Eames DSR chair was nicknamed the “Eiffel” chair because of its chrome base and the shape of the base.  The DSR stands for dining-height, side chair, rod base.  The original chairs were made from fiberglass though nowadays it is being made from polypropylene.  Charles and Ray Eames continually updated their designs as newer materials became available.  It was after his death that the matt finish to his chairs that he so greatly desired was achieved.  These chairs have deep seat pockets which protect the back.  The waterfall seat edge protects the backs of thighs.  The DSR Chairs are popular in cafes and lounges since they can be manufactured in colors which suit the décor of the place.  Chairs are also weatherproof and ideally can be used in outdoor cafes and bars.  They are made in colors as varied as yellow, black, mauve, white, and cream.

Eames Daw

Eames Daw

The Eames DAW chairs are chairs with a wooden base. The DAW stands for dining height, armchair with wood base.  There have been variations made to the original design with the wooden dowel legs being available in different finishes including walnut, ash, or maple.  This design was originally presented in 1948 at a competition for low cost furniture designs.  The seats are extremely comfortable and hug the body.  They also have comfortable armrests.  The classic design ensures it enhances the aesthetics of any dining room.  The bar stools white are a perfect match for the Eames chairs and the right height for island or kitchen benches.

Eames Molded Plastic Armchairs, Side Chairs And Rockers

Eames plastic armchair

The Eames molded plastic chair was originally fabricated in stamped steel in 1948 by Charles Eames, an American designer, and submitted as a prototype in a worldwide low-cost furniture contest.  In 1950, the seat of the chair was converted to fiberglass, a material which was never used before that time for furniture. This material not only made the chair lighter but gave them a smooth, polished and very modern look. It is said that Charles Eames was dissatisfied with the fiberglass coloring. He had always visualized the chair to have a solid uniform color and matte finish but that did not happen till after his demise.  Thanks to the advancement of materials, today these award-winning molded chairs are made of recyclable polypropylene and come in various styles, designs and a variety of vibrant colors.

The Eames plastic armchair and the Eames plastic side chair have high backs, deep seat pockets and comfortable waterfall edges that help reduce the pressure off the back and thighs. The chair seats are available in an array of colors. The base of the chairs may vary. They may have a four-legged tubular steel base in chrome or powder coated paint or have a four- legged base that is cross-strutted. These cross-strutted base chairs are generally referred to as Eiffel chairs on account of the shape.
